Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

This just in-yet another big question for Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Fantastic Four” film has been answered. We know who will be playing the Herald of Galactus, the Silver Surfer.According to all the usual suspects, Emmy winner Julia Garner (“The Americans,” “Ozark”) will be taking on the role of Shalla-Bal, one of the Marvel Comics versions of the Silver Surfer. Technically, Shalla-Bal is the wife of  Norrin Radd, the og Silver Surfer. Shalla-Bal and Norrin end up BOTH possessing the power of the Herald due to some cosmic meddling by the High Evolutionary. (Yes, we know this is Juno Silver Surfer, but…

This just in- filmmaker Craig Gillespie will direct DC Studios’ upcoming “Supergirl” film. It will star “House of the Dragon” actress Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. Ana Nogueira wrote the script, and thats sort of all we know for sure at this point. Gillespie has a slew of some of our favorite films behind him, things like the aforementioned “I, Tonya” and “Cruella.” As with other superhero titles, we’re a little sad to see the film getting a male director. But, as fans of his, we’re excited to see what he does with “Supergirl.” This story is developing…

We are staring at the 25th anniversary of the Wachowski sisters’ landmark film, “The Matrix.” While it borrowed heavily from Hong Kong action films of the era, it really did set the tone for most of the films that came after it. Starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Laurence Fishburne, the highly Y2K styled tale spins a Jesus savior narrative in the background of a “Terminator” esque AI machine uprising and enslavement of the human race. The big news today is that Drew Goddard (“The Martian,” “Cabin in the Woods”) will write and direct a new film…

Yes, there’s been a lot of discourse this year about actor Bill Skarsgård. Mostly surrounding his starring role as Eric Draven in the upcoming reboot of “The Crow.” And, to be fair, most of that has been about the frankly baffling character design. NOT, as some of our Facebook commenters would have you believe, about Skarsgård’s abilities as an actor or him personally. [Editor’s note: I actually interviewed Bill YEARS ago for Netflix’s very first original series, “Hemlock Grove.” He was, and still is, an absolute delight, and I have no problem with him at all.]Okay, what we REALLY want…

Ah yes, the sequel we are definitely not looking forward to from director Todd Phillips is gearing up for a trailer release later this month. We’re talking of course about “Joker: Foile à Deux,” which will see the return of Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime. He’ll be joined this time around by Lady Gaga, who will be playing the one and only Dr. Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, to the picture. This morning, Warner Bros. Pictures released a brand new official poster for the film. Obviously you can see the pair’s clown makeup on full…

In what some fans are calling a long-overdue honor, filmmaker Christopher Nolan and his longtime producing partner Emma Thomas will be receiving a Knighthood and Damehood, respectively. In case you weren’t aware, there is a brand new Marvel Studios film currently in production. Director Jake Schreier has actually given us the best info on the upcoming film, saying “Thunderbolts” will be a new approach, and a new story. Which is interesting, considering how many former characters we’ll see returning. “It was just a really different approach and a new kind of story to tell amidst that, which I know they’ve made so many things, but it’s not a sequel,” Schreier said. “Yes, these characters have appeared before, but it is a new story being told and a story,…

Dreams really do come true, especially for fans of Frank Herbert’s seminal piece of science fiction, “Dune.” Theres just so much of it to experience! Books! Movies! Miniseries! Comics! While I don’t love either of SYFY miniseries, I *am* a lover of David Lynch’s 1984 version. More minimally of Denis Villeneuve’s recent “Dune Part One” and “Dune Part Two.” That’s not to say I outright DISLIKE them, but, there is more for me personally in the 1984 flick. Including but not limited to that bitchin’ Toto guitar riff, the Atreides battle pug, and that magical scene of Sting as Feyd-Rautha…
