Ten years ago, the anime gods blessed us with “Madoka Magica,” and it was good. Really, really good. On the surface, “Madoka Magica” seemed to be just like any other magical girl series. Director James Wan (“Saw,” “The Conjuring”) is clearly taking inspiration from the Italian horrors of the 70s, and we are here for it! The trailer shows main character Madison, watching home videos of her childhood with her mother, and discussing an imaginary friend named Gabriel. Wan then comes in with commentary about switching up the horror formula. We then see Madison, terrified in her bed as a figure appears behind her. Is this Gabriel? NBC streaming service Peacock’s upcoming adaptation of the popular young adult “Vampire Academy” series of novels finally has its main cast, and we’re pretty stoked! The (sure to be hit) series is being created by Marguerite MacIntyre and Julie Plec of “Vampire Diaries” fame! Fresh face Sisi Stringer will be starring as half-Moroi half-human protagonist Rose Hathaway. You might recognize Stringer as Mileena from “Mortal Kombat” (2021). Easing into autumn means three things: pumpkin spice flavored everything, kids go back to school, and most importantly, the return of “American Horror Story!” And this year, we needed AHS more than ever.
