Dave is the token Brit in the NerdBot crew, living in the centre of Liverpool in an eclectic household with three musicians. A writer and actor, Dave's main nerd credentials are a serious addiction to (mostly American) sci-fi movies and shows, some very selective gaming and a life-long but ultimately fruitless ambition to travel the stars.

Warning: Here be spoilers! I really wanted to love this movie. I love Star Wars and The Force Awakens is a great movie, so I expected great things from The Last Jedi. There is so much potential for the second outing in the new franchise. We have the return of Luke Skywalker, revelations about Snoke and Porgs! Surely the movie can’t do anything wrong with all that to offer? Sadly, it turns out it can. In no particular order, here are the things that I think ‘The Last Jedi’ got wrong. Rian Johnson is a smart ass So, I think…

British super group Queen once famously asked ‘Who wants to live forever?’ Apparently quite a few people, given how often immortality finds it’s way into popular sci-fi. This time around it’s in Altered Carbon, a new R rated series coming to Netflix. The show has been some fifteen years in the making, with showrunner Laeta Kalogridis struggling to get studios to buy in due to the adult content of the novel. Kalogridis is so confident in the property that she optioned the rights before the book even made it to print. That confidence has paid off, with Netflix stepping in…

When I say ‘still’ coming, you might wonder what I mean, or whether it almost wasn’t. That isn’t my point. What I mean is, doesn’t it feel as if the world has almost forgotten about it?  Regardless, the Black Panther is real and is still on track for a February 2018 release. To make damn sure that people don’t forget it, they’ve just released a flashy new one sheet with the full roster of headliners on display. For the noobs, Black Panther finds T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), king of Wakanda, fighting to keep his throne and country safe. Wakanda is secretly…

Not literally, obviously. He-Man would kick Goyer’s ass for one, plus he doesn’t really exist. That said, the challenge of getting Adam to the big screen does seem just as hard, if not harder. Goyer does have history with rich kids trying to save the world however, being responsible for the penmanship in a little known trilogy about a Dark Knight. For those not born last century, He-Man is the alter-ego of Adam, Crown Prince of Eternia. When he holds aloft his magic sword and says the magic words, he becomes the muscle bound hero He-Man. With help from the…

Unfortunately, no. Marvel does want the rights back. But reports early in November about Disney looking to buy out 20th Century Fox have apparently already been scuppered. Multiple news outlets, including Bloomberg, are saying that the two companies have already decided they can’t reach a deal. This is sad news for many, as anyone who is a fan of the MCU would love to see a movie with Rogue finally able to fly, or where Sue and Johnny Storm look like actual siblings. That’s not to mention the sheer epic scale of a movie that not only ropes in all the…

Continuing it’s tradition of hiring actors that have earned their stripes, the MCU is now adding Jude Law to the books in it’s upcoming ‘Captain Marvel’ movie. Law will be playing Doctor Walter Lawson, aka Kree warrior Mar-Vel, aka superhero Captain Marvel. It’s well publicized that the star of this rodeo is Brie Larson, as the other Captain Marvel, while Law’s character will apparently be taking on a mentor like role in the movie. There are echoes of Ant-Man in the set-up, though where that was definitely high up on the comedy scale it’s hard to imagine Carol Danvers alcohol…

In a move that almost everyone saw coming, Disney has announced that it will be taking it’s content away from streaming behemoth Netflix in order to support its own fledgling streaming service. The as yet unnamed service is due to launch in 2019 and Netflix will retain all of its Disney content until the end of that year. What this means, in the long term, is that come 2020 Netflix could be in trouble. On the face of it Netflix seems unbeatable. It’s the number one streaming service in the world right now and produces a lot of its’ own exclusive…

Source: DC Comics Actually, that’s not strictly accurate, as he will be playing Captain Marvel and not Billy Batson, the teen who transforms himself into a superhero by saying one of the fanciest magic words ever to grace a comic book. The announcement came from the film’s director, David F. Sandberg, though it seems to be The Hollywood Reporter that is bringing it front and center in the world of superhero news. With this announcement we may actually see the movie reach the screens before 2020. Dwayne Johnson was the first person to be cast in the movie as the…
